The UK Liaison Officer position offers interesting challenges in a stimulating environment as part of team working in STFC’s UK Liaison Office (UKLO) at CERN.  The UKLO consists of the Head of Office and two to three UK Liaison Officers.

The UK Liaison Office team provides on-site support for UK scientists, engineers and students visiting CERN, as well as liaison with relevant CERN and STFC administration. The team provides logistical support for all UK visitors to CERN, this includes the management of a large number of rented properties in the greater Geneva area. The UKLO is also the primary interface for arranging monetary transfers between STFC and CERN, the administrative interface for UK Universities with involvement at CERN, and is frequently contacted by UK visitors to CERN.

You will be a full team member and areas of responsibility will include but are not limited to:

  • act as the first point of contact for telephone calls and visitors to the UK Liaison Office
  • provide administrative support to the Head of the UK Liaison Office 
  • maintain databases and records on SharePoint websites
  • assist in the management of accommodation for long term visitors from the UK to CERN
  • prepare payment requests to CERN Finance for expenditure on housing, transport, and shipping
  • assist with logistical support for our visitors and community.

Shortlisting Criteria


  • experience working in an environment requiring completion of varied tasks requiring follow-up
  • advanced level of oral and written French
  • experience in dealing with students/young adults


  • possess driver license and able to drive a manual transmission vehicle
  • competence in the use of MS Office applications

Interview Criteria


  • experience working in a fast-paced, team-based environment
  • fluent in oral and written English
  • experience working with basic financial transactions and/or billing


  • fluent in oral and written French
  • prior exposure to the scientific community or a service industry
  • experience dealing with demanding people of different backgrounds
  • knowledge of Microsoft ACCESS and SharePoint
