Description of work area

CEH’s research underpins our understanding of the environment and the processes that support life on Earth. We undertake large-scale monitoring and experimentation to detect and predict the causes and consequences of environmental change. Our science is managed and delivered through integrated science.  Study of invasive alien species and their interactions with their environment are central to this.

We are looking for a Project Administrator Apprentice to work within a team biodiversity scientists but particularly on a European networking project on alien species and citizen science. 

Main duties

The post will involve managing a large budget within a European on-line system, alongside the Project Manager. Ensuring review and payment of travel and subsistence expenses from participants across Europe and beyond. Assisting in organization of activities in countries across Europe. Preparation and collation of data on equality and diversity. The Project Administrator Apprentice will use bespoke programs such e-COST management system but also Microsoft Office packages and e-mail. The role will provide training in business administration and project management via a level 3 Business Administration Apprenticeship.  This will involve on the job learning and formal training.

Qualifications and Skills required

Minimum of 2 A Levels (grades A-C) or equivalent qualification e.g. NVQ Level 3 or Level 3 Apprenticeship, in STEM subjects. You should also have demonstrable interest in your own continuing professional development (CPD).

You are expected to demonstrate the following:

  • computer literate using Microsoft Office suite with an interest in learning new IT systems
  • genuine interest in project management, with a desire to further develop skills in this area
  • thorough and methodical approach to administration, with good attention to detail
  • good communication skills, both verbal and written, and good interpersonal skills to work effectively within a team
  • the ability to effectively organize and prioritise your workload
  • willing and able to attend meetings and short conferences overseas on an occasional basis
  • an enthusiasm and interest in CEH science

There may be an opportunity for an open-ended position at the end of the apprenticeship with a starting salary c.£18k
