About UK SBS Procurement

From staplers to ships, UK SBS’s Procurement Team meets our clients incredibly diverse sourcing requirements. We have been widely recognised for our success in bringing together the procurement requirements of the UKRI and BEIS and its Arm Length Bodies.

We are currently looking for talented procurement professionals to join our Major Projects procurement team.

The Major Projects procurement team covers some of the most complex and diverse requirements within the public sector, managing strategically important, complex multi-million projects on behalf of the customers across different categories. For example, we have sourced a new £200m contract which will drive economic growth by supporting small to medium sized enterprises and have secured a contract in record time to build a new vessel for oceanographic research.

Purpose of the role: 

  • working as part of a team, you will be based at the UK SBS Headquarters in Swindon
  • you will provide procurement support to UKRI and BEIS and Arm Length Bodies as required and report to a Senior Procurement Specialist in the Major Projects Team
  • you will be responsible for running various procurements ranging in complexity and value, all in accordance with public sector regulations as well as UK SBS policy and process. In addition, a crucial part of the role will be providing strategic procurement, contractual and commercial advice to the UK SBS customers as appropriate. Often working on high profile and key projects for the customers, relationship and stakeholder management will be a central part of the work undertaken
  • your role will be key to ensuring value for money, generating savings, managing competition and tenders, challenging spend and maintaining and developing the relationship between the customers and UK SBS.

Key responsibilities: 

  • procurement support to UKRI, BEIS and Arm Length Bodies
  • provision of commercial advice and support, promoting good purchasing practice
  • running of procurement projects including all aspects of sourcing activity including requirement gathering, tendering, evaluation, advice, contract management and other support as required
  • develop and maintain effective supplier relationship management with key suppliers to manage risks and ensure successful delivery of contract objectives and result
  • ensuring all procurement processes comply with EU procurement law and UK SBS policy and process
  • signposting of requirements where these are dealt with by the wider team
  • assisting in the resolution of problems and issues as they arise
  • working as part of the UK SBS Major Projects team and within the wider UK SBS Procurement team
  • responsible for ensuring that procurement activity is run within agreed SLAs and resolving service requests as they are assigned.

  • contractual management of suppliers and contracts to ensure successful outcome for partner

Desirable: 

  • MCIPS qualification (or working towards)
  • degree or equivalent experience
  • knowledge and understanding of the principles of best practice procurement process
  • Public Sector experience and Knowledge of OJEU processes
  • experience of working in a highly regulated environment.
