You will assist the Head of Facilities and Operational Services throughout the whole range of Estate and Facilities functions. Specific responsibility for engineering statutory compliance, project management, capital maintenance management software, PPMs, testing of plant and equipment (e.g. autoclaves) and buildings and engineering services.
You will provide the Head of Facilities and Operational Services with professional and technical engineering advice and information as required.

Main duties and responsibilities: 

  • to develop and maintain good relationships and clear lines of communication with Facilities Managers, Science Area Heads and other users of the service provided by the Science Area Heads and with Facilities colleagues within the surrounding area
  • in conjunction with the Head of Facilities and Operational Services aid the development of statutory engineering compliance issues in Estates Business Plans, outlining, monitoring and reporting on targets that achieve the CEH`s statutory obligations
  • assist the Head of Facilities and Operational Services in ensuring the optimal provision of Estates operational and maintenance services
  • where contracted services exist, to be responsible for overseeing and developing with Contactors levels of maintenance services appropriate to the agreed contracts and the needs of Managers
  • responsibility for ensuring the delivery of the Long Term Maintenance plan
  • ensure the cohesive development and delivery of Estates’ statutory engineering compliance services and to seek improvements that increase efficiency and raise the quality of service
  • responsibility for the efficient use of delegated Estates budgets and ensuring that, where appropriate, annual cost improvement programmes are implemented and met.

Shortlisting and Interview Criteria:

  • able to demonstrate a commitment to promote and adhere to CEH values of Excellence, Integrity and Team work
  • qualified to Degree/HNC level in an Estates and Facilities discipline or equivalent experience, plus specialist knowledge acquired through courses and experience to Master’s level or equivalent
  • full UK driving license
  • CIEH Health and Safety Certificate or equivalent
  • trained in effective project management following PRINCE 2 methodology
  • basic & intermediate level training in AutoCAD
  • significant experience in formulating development plans and policies
  • extensive experience of working in the Estates and capital planning/project management role
  • experience of business case/report writing for a range of audiences including the presentation of complex statistics and information
  • an in depth knowledge of the following: CDM 2015, L8 Control of Legionella, and SFG20
  • management of Asbestos at Work Regulations
  • excellent written and verbal communication skills and key component of business case preparation working knowledge of an Estate
  • using a Computer Aided Facilities management (CAFM) system
  • ability to deliver compliance and safety training
  • ability to communicate at all levels of staff and clients/customers
  • hold good influencing and negotiating skills and be able to develop and maintain good working relations with both internal and external stakeholders
  • good IT skills able to use office systems and MS computer packages e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Office.
