Are you interested in spatial environmental data and its application in the development of new soil carbon and land use modelling frameworks for national applications?

You will be highly motivated with existing GIS and data processing skills and interested in further developing and applying these skills for analysis of environmental data and model development under our Research Associate programme. 

You will use your skills to develop new spatial processing routines and applications and manage complex data and analyse its GIS context. You will interpret the results of the data and communicate these to specialists and non-specialists, therefore exceptional communication skills are essential. You will have the fantastic opportunity to contribute your expertise in data analysis to fund proposals and contribute to papers and reports.

The CEH Research Associates’ programme provides individuals the opportunity to gain practical experience of working within a Research Institute, whilst acquiring - through a structured 3 year programme -specialist and wider skills that will be valuable in a range of careers.

The Centre for Ecology & Hydrology (CEH) is part of the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) and is the UK's Centre of Excellence for integrated research in terrestrial and freshwater ecosystems and their interaction with the atmosphere. Shortlisting & Interview criteria

You will have a degree (at least 2.1) and/or Master’s degree in an environmental science subject, and a PhD in a related subject, including skills in GIS and spatial data analysis.

You will be able to demonstrate that you have skills and knowledge of spatial data analysis techniques and an ability to process and analyse data using Python or R.

You will have a demonstrable experience in GIS raster and vector analysis (e.g. in QGIS, or ArcGIS)

At the end of the 3-year training programme, you will have gained skills in statistics, data analysis and data management by working on the data analysis and management of earth observation data (e.g. in ENVI, GEE, Python, R, SNAP). You will have developed novel approaches including the integration of spatial data analysis. You will have gained skills in writing up results and contributing to scientific papers and reports detailing your findings.
