As a Senior Architect, you will play a key role in our Architecture & Design team with a focus on driving forward our use of Cloud technology. You will responsible for design and assurance activities around the development and ongoing management of our Enterprise Target Architecture and Enterprise Solution Architecture (ESA). As an organisation we are on a change journey and you will bring design and technical solutions and architecture expertise to support the future infrastructure for shared services.

You will be an individual that has the desire to be trained to be a solution architect who possess some of the required skills for this role.

Key Responsibilities/Activities:

  • understand, advocate and augment the principles of information technology strategies
  • analyse enterprise business drivers to determine corresponding change requirements
  • analyse the IT environment to detect critical deficiencies and recommend solutions for improvement
  • analyse technology industry and market trends and determine their potential impact on the enterprise
  • "sell" the architecture process, its outcome and ongoing results
  • design cloud solutions that are neutral towards technologies, products, cloud providers, vendors etc
  • a need to be agnostic to be able to deliver the best optimal solution based on the customer needs
  • define the principles to guide solution decisions for the enterprise
  • assist in the design and implementation of an ESA based on enterprise business requirements and IT strategies
  • design and direct the governance activities associated with ensuring ESA compliance
  • coordinate solution architecture implementation and modification activities
  • facilitate the evaluation and selection of software product standards, as well as the design of standard software configurations
  • consult with application or infrastructure development projects to fit systems or infrastructure to architecture and identify when it is necessary to modify the solution architecture to accommodate project needs
  • identify the organizational impact (for example, on skills, processes, structures or culture) and financial impact of the ESA
  • document all solution architecture design and analysis work
  • work closely with the Change Directorate program management office (PMO) or project office to ensure alignment of plans with what is being delivered.

Shortlisting Criteria

Essential:

  • an understanding of managing an architectural domain
  • knowledge of all components of an enterprise architecture
  • an understanding/knowledge of 3 or more of the following:
    • Dot NET application framework
    • DevOps processes, technologies and automation
    • Development approaches and design pattern
    • Modern application open standards such as OpenID Connect/OAuth 2.0, JSON, Open API Initiativ
    • COTS and custom applications
  • application and data security and security in the cloud
  • knowledge of business process re-engineering principles and processes.

Desirable:

  • an understanding of the Government Digital Service Technology code of practice and standards.

Interview Criteria

Essential:

  • to have the desire and drive to become a solution architect
  • a good understanding of how to track and understand emerging technologies and advise on the use of them while developing solution designs
  • ability to articulate the business impact of solution architecture alternatives.

Desirable:

  • working in adherence to architecture standards
  • ability to design, provide solutions and manage modern application Cloud architectures.
