Team Purpose:

We provide creative, design and production services to the whole of UKRI, including all the Councils and other organisations associated with them. Our aim is to deliver an outstanding standard of creative design, account management and print production services, offering integrated services across print and digital media, as well as range of complementary services.

We have a client centred, collaborative can-do approach and working attitude, helping our clients in defining their briefs and solving the challenges they face. We offer doorstep convenience and accessibility to services developed specifically with our clients’ needs in mind, and continually evolve our services in consultation with them – our goal is to give our clients the services they want, need and will use.

Job Purpose:

The primary objective of the role is to provide a friendly, professional and responsive Design Services to UKRI.

You will work closely with the design team, gaining experience in dealing with UKRI design requirements. You will also be working towards completion of a recognised qualification in design.

You will work on a variety of accounts ensuring that all clients are consistently satisfied with the quality of service being delivered. You will gain graphic design skills and gain the ability to juggle multiple projects.

Main Outputs and Activities:

Designs

  • to work towards successful completion of a recognised qualification in design
  • to gain an understanding of how to take a brief from concept through to delivery, whether it is for print, online or display, and manage the delivery of high quality, creative design and production solutions. When up to speed, be responsible for specific projects
  • to show, through completed work, compliance of the corporate identities of each client
  • to work within the Design team and gain an understanding for scheduling and managing design projects including hands-on design a wide range of print and digital materials
  • continually check work to ensure high standards of accuracy
  • through a comprehensive training programme, gain an understanding of all processes and roles with JRS.

Communications:

  • to liaise with JRS colleagues regarding design services maintaining quality and efficiency
  • to liaise with the Client Services team with regards to design briefs and job specifications.

  • highly motivated, with a polite friendly and diplomatic manner
  • playing an active role in the JR Steam.

Working Relationships:

Internal:

  • clients – Liaising directly with clients on design and typesetting briefs
  • client Services Team – Answering technical questions to ensure best advice is passed on to clients
  • JRS Colleagues – To discuss next stage of the production process.

External:

  • occasional discussion with external design/print company.

Shortlisting Criteria:

Essential:

  • qualified to ’GCSE’ level or equivalent (Maths and English)
  • to have an aptitude in design
  • computer literate and competent in use of Microsoft Office applications
  • to have an enthusiasm to work in a design and print environment.

Desirable:

  • previous experience working in a design environment or recently attending a design course at college.

Interview Criteria:

  • evidence of a positive can-do attitude and team mentality
  • to have an aptitude in design ideas
  • a sharp eye for detail
  • good problem-solving skills
  • good verbal and written communication skills.
  • good organisational skills and a keen attention to detail.

Desirable:

  • ability to work effectively and collaboratively under pressure
  • ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.

 

UKRI supports research in areas that include animal health, agriculture and food security, and bioscience for health which includes research on animals, genetic modification and stem cell research. Whilst you may not have direct involvement in this type of research, you should consider whether this conflicts with your personal values or beliefs.
