Whether you are a recent graduate or leading researcher, the Medical Research Council (MRC) offers rewarding career opportunities across the biomedical sciences.

Set up in 1913, MRC is dedicated to improving healthcare and quality of life, fighting infections, advancing stem cell research and combating disease.

Working alongside or supporting pioneering researchers, our staff contribute to breakthrough studies and history-shaping discoveries. Nobel Prizes have been won by 29 of our scientists including:

  • Hopkins who shed light on the vitality of vitamins.
  • Fleming who released the power of Penicillin.
  • Crick and Watson who unravelled the DNA double-helix - the building-blocks of life.

You, too, can play a part in MRC's national and global impact. There's a wealth of openings for your skills and ambition in institutes throughout the UK, as well as two centres in Africa. Working in and living near many of the UK's top universities MRC staff can thrive in these stimulating communities.

Attracting and training the brightest minds, MRC invests in their future, developing the research leaders of tomorrow.

Alongside the researchers, our operational services are vital in keeping our scientific activities running smoothly. A MRC management and administrative role is far from run-of the mill. Programme managers steer the strategy and advise scientists. From human resources specialists and finance people to facilities assistants and purchase ledger clerks, there are opportunities in many locations.

Our support staff play a key role in biomedical research. We have work for those with specialist scientific and technical skills - across the breadth of science, computing, nursing, statistics, imaging techniques, mass spectroscopy, engineering and electrical services … the opportunities go on.

And MRC's work wouldn't happen without good Infrastructure staff. Each busy unit requires building and general facilities services including: catering, cleaning, maintenance, laboratory services, library and information services, reception and portering, security, stores and transport.
