About us

The Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC) part of UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) is a world-leading multidisciplinary science organisation. As well as working collaboratively with academia and paving the way in UK scientific research, STFC is a national resource available to UK businesses, from spin-outs to corporates. Providing unique access to large scale science facilities, equipment and expertise, we work collaboratively with businesses in order to reduce the risk surrounding innovation and enable new applications of technology in truly exciting and disruptive ways. Everything we do is about driving productivity and growth in the UK economy. Our pioneering scientific research ensures that the UK remains competitive globally and our collaboration with UK businesses, both big and small, through the work we do at our campuses in Cheshire, Oxfordshire and Edinburgh, supports regional development and increases job creation.

STFC is seeking to appoint a creative and talented Events Assistant to join the Impact and Engagement Team within the Business and Innovations Directorate (BID). The Directorate exists to bridge the gap between pioneering science and business. The Impact and Engagement team’s role is to communicate to industry and STFC’s key stakeholders in order to develop brand awareness and demonstrate the impact our support is having on the UK’s growth and economy.

About the role

Reporting into the Events Manager, who has more than 30 years of experience in business-to-business events management, the role will be challenging and varied. You will be an enthusiastic and active team member, working closely with 4 marketing professionals to ensure that events are successfully promoted. You will also work with colleagues across the Business and Innovations Directorate and others in Programs Directorate in supporting internal and external events, from smaller networking events to large international conferences involving partner organisations such as ESA and CERN and programs such as Bridging for Innovators. The role will also involve working autonomously, conducting analysis and contributing feedback on events to the Events Manager in order that STFC can keep abreast on which ones they should attend and/or sponsor.

The main duties of this post will include:

  • Supporting all internal and external events
  • Analysis of events
  • Taking ownership of routine networking and business support activities
  • Work closely with the marketing team members on social media campaigns
  • Support logistical and administrative tasks
  • Maintain records for all projects
  • Oversee and maintain the Events Calendar
  • Support and provide input to the department’s event processes
  • Attend meetings
  • Support the setup and dismantle of stands at internal and external exhibitions
  • Contribute to the design of new event material
  • Follow STFC’s inclusive events guidelines
  • Ad-hoc support to all team members when required.

What we are looking for:

You will need to be a self-starter capable of working under minimal supervision and comfortable in working with a wide variety of individuals at all levels. Having good interpersonal skills is crucial as is the ability to think quickly and problem solve. We are looking for someone who is a team player, uses their initiative and is able to bring new ideas to the team. Organisation is key to this role as well as a can-do attitude and a good eye for detail. The role will involve travel to other STFC sites as well as conference/exhibition locations throughout the UK. You will have some experience in an event role and will be seeking a challenge where no 2 days are the same.
